Threats to Your Carpets
Various factors contribute to the accumulated damages in your carpets. Heavy, rolling traffic brings in destructive dirt, threatening stains and harmful allergens and bacteria.
These threats pose problems for both your health and the quality of your carpets. Excess dirt, stains, germs and allergens weaken the strength of your carpeting.

Our pets are an integral part of our lives and families but sometimes they can create problems with our carpet among other things. When Fido has dug a hole into your carpet you may be tempted to think that you need to replace the entire room with new carpet but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Take a look below to see some of the pet damage that we’ve come across in our client’s homes.
Many of our clients ask what is involved with repairing their pet damage and what to expect in regards to the cost of repair. As is with any repair the cost is determined by the level of damage in your carpet. Some Berbers may just have a few tufts pulled like the bottom right picture in our example. Others may be more severe in that the pet chews and rips all the way down to the sub floor which means a replacement of padding as well. This was the case in image 3 in our example. Repairing pet damage requires a permanent section which entails removing the damaged piece of carpet and replacing it with remnant carpet from the same dye lot. Most of the time homeowners will have some carpet left over from the initial install, other times it requires some creativity to make the damage go away.
Carpet stretching, an integral part of installation and re-installation. Many of my clients ask how & why is their carpet buckling and rippling. For that question there are several answers but the most common reason for a carpet needing to be re-stretched is poor installation.
Poor installation you ask? Indeed. Unfortunately, too many carpet installers use too many short cuts these days and power stretching during installation is the worst short cut possible. The power stretcher is a heavy bulky tool that requires setting up and breaking down in every room. A step that many installers would rather avoid. Steamin Beemon always stretch your carpet with a power stretcher, always. Otherwise we could not offer our lifetime guarantee.
The other reasons for buckling aren’t as common but they include things like allowing your home to exceed 85 degrees inside. This usually happens if you rent your home and it sits unoccupied for a time with the AC turned off or too low. The same is true obviously when homes for sale are left in the same condition. Another common cause is making the mistake of sliding heavy furniture across the carpet. Regardless of how it buckled one thing is always true, it’s unattractive and left like it is for very long will only make it worse. After time you will begin to notice that not only are the ripples getting bigger but they’re darker or dirtier and this is because of the fact that rippled carpet is raised above the flat surface of the rest of the room and that creates a rub mark from the soles of your shoes.
The worst potential part of rippled or buckled carpet is the fact that they create a trip hazard and if you have ripples in your business then that is also a potential law suit waiting to happen. When you notice ripples beginning to form or even if you’ve been looking at that thing for months or years just remember, we can restretch your carpet in no time and return it to its original glory.
What is involved in re-stretching my carpet?
Well, first we ask that you move those pieces of furniture that are easily relocated. Lamps, end tables and things like this are examples of the easy stuff. When we arrive we will assess the need and make recommendations on any additional furniture moving.
What if I am unable to move my furniture?
Let is set where it is. We use furniture sliders for heavy pieces that allows us to gently relocate a piece of furniture so we can work around it. Very rarely do we encounter a furniture situations that we cannot handle.
Hot irons, fireplace embers, cigarettes, heating lamps, fallen lights, curling irons, and in some cases even snake warming lamps are all enemies to your carpet. When you see a burn you think to yourself “Oh my gosh, how in the world will I fix this?” Worry not, carpet burns are our specialty at Steamin Beemon.
Repairing a burned piece of carpet requires a permanent section in the same way that a tear or hole is repaired and that means it’s best if you have remnant carpet available or a donor piece left over from the initial installation. If donor carpet is not available we still may be able to help. Take a look at some of the burned carpet that we’ve repaired for our clients.
Nothing is more alarming than walking into a room and feeling squish squish under your toes. That sound should never be coming from your carpet. If it is then you have a burst pipe or a water heater leak. Maybe it’s a leaky roof after a heavy rainfall or perhaps someone left a sink or a tub running. Whatever it is and however it happened you don’t have much time before mildew and even mold can begin forming. It’s very important that your carpet is pulled back from the wall and the air movers placed to dry it and the padding before a re-installation can happen. It is also important to know that the tack strips along the wall also need to be completely dry and sometimes replaced if the water has weakened them. That’s just a bit of friendly advice from me to you but when you have water damage in your carpet, call us and we’ll respond promptly.
